Biography
Daniel Sundy
Daniel was born in 1979 in San Diego, California and began playing Double Bass at the age of 12. From early on he learned Jazz-theory as well as Electric Bass and as teenager performed in Rock / Heavy Metal bands, Jazz combos / Big Bands, a String Quartet and youth orchestras. At the age of 16 he performed his first original compositions.
After receiving his High School Arts dimploma from Idyllwild Arts Academy, Daniel completed his Bachelors of Music degree at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM). There he received Double Bass training from Stephen Tramontozzi and composition training from Conrad Susa and Elinor Armer. The SFCM awarded Daniel for his work in Orchestration with Honors and is the recipient of the Theodor Presser award of his graduating class. During his study in San Francisco, Daniel already held positions in various orchestras in the San Francisco Bay area, such as Santa Cruz, Napa Valley und Modesto. Daniel was also a Bassist for the Klezmer groups "Red Hot Chatchkas", "Jubilee Klezmer Ensemble" and Accordionist/Leader of "Klezmersutra" in Germany.
In 2002 Daniel moved to Germany to continue studying Double Bass with Prof. Božo Paradžik and completed his second degree in 2006 from the Music University Freiburg im Breisgau.
Since 2005, Daniel is a member of the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen. Addition to his Orchestra commitment, he has performed and recorded with such ensembles as SWR-Radio Symphony Orchestra, Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, Ulm Philharmonic, Bavarien Chamber Orchestra-Bad Brückenau, Consortium Classicum, SWDKO-Pforzheim and regularly performs chamber music and as soloist.
Awards
2007, Daniel received an "Honorable Mention" recognition from Temple Musicians Guild for a work for Choir in Hebrew, Solomons Song.
2001, Theodore Presser Scholarship from San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
1999, Honors: "Orchestration" from San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
